2-D classes in Drawing/Painting, Printmaking, Digital and Darkroom Photography, Drawing/Painting, Graphic Design, Digital Arts, and Studio Television Production (BHS-TV) are multi-level courses with an emphasis on process, composition, technique, and concept. Assignments are designed to encourage individual creativity and empower each student to develop a unique artistic voice.
BHS offers students a variety of 3D art choices, among which are Ceramics, Design/Sculpture, Metal Jewelry Arts, and Woodworking. Independent study may be requested by seniors who have successfully completed the fourth level of a given studio, and wish to study intensely in that medium.
Students may apply to any AP Art class they are interested in during the winter of their sophomore year. Incoming seniors who intend to enroll in the Advanced Placement Art Portfolio program (2D Photography Design, 3D Design, or 2D Drawing/Painting) must enroll in a year-long AP Studio course as well as an additional art class each semester. AP Studio students create a body of related works which reflect an in-depth exploration of a specific visual idea.
